Led Zeppelin - Back To The LA Forum 1977

Back To The LA Forum 1977: A Raw, Sweaty Dive Into Led Zeppelin’s Glory Days If you're a fan of rock music with a capital R, then Back To The LA Forum 1977 by Led Zeppelin is one hell of a ride. Released in 2019 (yeah, decades after the actual gig), this live album captures the band at their peak—sweaty, loud, and absolutely untouchable. It’s classic rock meets hard rock, recorded in Japan but packed with all the energy of an L.A. crowd losing its mind back in '77. Let’s just say it’s not for folks who like their music mellow. The tracklist reads like a "Best Of" playlist, but two songs really stuck with me: “Stairway to Heaven” and “Kashmir.” I mean, how could they not? “Stairway to Heaven,” man—it’s almost cliche to love it at this point, but hearing it live on this record feels different. It starts off slow, almost gentle, like Jimmy Page is whispering secrets through his guitar strings. Then BAM! That iconic solo hits, and suddenly you’re transported to some mystical place where dragons probably exist. Robert Plant’s vocals are raw here, less polished than studio versions, which makes it feel more real, more human. You can practically hear him sweating under the stage lights. And then there’s “Kashmir.” Oh boy. This one slaps so hard it should come with a warning label. John Bonham’s drumming? Insane. Like, if thunder had a heartbeat, it would sound like this. The whole thing builds into this massive wall of sound that just swallows you whole. By the time it finishes, you’ll need a minute to catch your breath. Honestly, listening to these tracks feels like stepping into a time machine and landing right in the middle of rock history. One cool thing about this release is how unfiltered it feels. There’s no overproduction or fancy editing—just four guys doing what they do best, straight-up owning the stage. Songs like “Whole Lotta Love” and “Rock And Roll” remind you why Led Zeppelin basically invented arena rock. Even quieter moments, like “Going To California,” shine because they let you hear the band’s softer side without losing any authenticity. Wendy Records did a solid job putting this together, even if the release came out of nowhere. Sure, it might’ve been better as a surprise drop rather than years later, but hey, good things come to those who wait, right? So yeah, Back To The LA Forum 1977 isn’t perfect—it’s messy, chaotic, and sometimes rough around the edges. But honestly? That’s exactly why it works. It’s less of an album and more of a snapshot—a glimpse into a night when Led Zeppelin weren’t just playing music; they were creating magic. Here’s the kicker though: Listening to this now, in 2023, makes you realize something kinda sad. We’ll never get another band like them again. Not because musicians today aren’t talented, but because nobody plays like their lives depend on it anymore. Now go crank up the volume and thank me later.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Back To The LA Forum 1977* by Led Zeppelin wasn’t actually recorded in 2019. It’s a live recording from—you guessed it—1977. The tracks capture one of their legendary performances at the LA Forum. What makes it even more interesting? It was officially released in Japan in 2019, decades after the show happened. Songs like *Stairway to Heaven* and *Kashmir* feel extra special when you hear them played live with all the raw energy of that era. It’s like stepping back in time to rock history.

Funny little twist on the Whole Lotta Love riff right there at the beginning. You can see that throughout this show Page was really aiming to do things differently here and there.

Boots, brother, what are other top Zep shows, in your opinion, that you could recommend to me as someone new-ish to them? I've already listened to Tokyo 71 and Dortmund 80 and it's been amazing so far.

Considering that it's being recorded from the audience the quality is very good and I did enjoy it and brings back a lot of memories (I believe I said that before about other recordings). Boots I just love these recordings and your YouTube channel and keep em coming ✌️??

Absolutely incredible. It doesn't get any better, not in this lifetime, it's just not possible. Jimmy Page is a genuine, musical genius!! All of them! Absolute masters of their art!
What the hell would we have to listen to if these 4 men hadn't found one another and gave us these untimely creations?? ?
