Bombay Show Pig - Vulture Provider

Review by Michael R. Greco, Sr.

Vulture Provider by Bombay Show Pig: A Sonic Rollercoaster You Didn’t Know You Needed If you’re looking for an album that feels like your brain is being rewired by a mad scientist with a soft spot for noise and indie rock, Vulture Provider by Bombay Show Pig might just be the thing. Released in 2012 out of the Netherlands, this record doesn’t play it safe—it smashes genres together like a toddler throwing toys into a blender. Electronic meets rock, noise crashes headfirst into melody, and somehow, it all works. Well, mostly. The first track that really slapped me across the face (in a good way) was “On A Plane.” It starts off deceptively chill, almost like you’re floating in some dreamy ether. But then—BAM! The percussion kicks in, sharp as nails, and suddenly you're not on a plane anymore; you're strapped to the wing during turbulence. Fay Lovsky’s theremin wails in the background like a ghost having an existential crisis, while Frank Wienk’s marimba adds these weirdly hypnotic vibes. By the time Morris Kliphuis’ horn bursts through, I felt like my soul had been run over by a brass band on caffeine. It’s chaotic but oddly beautiful, kind of like falling in love at a demolition derby. Then there’s “Heart In A Headlock,” which hits different. This one sneaks up on you, all moody basslines and haunting violin courtesy of Sietse Van Gorkom. There’s something raw about how stripped-down it feels compared to the rest of the album. When Joost De Glopper’s backing vocals creep in near the end, it’s like hearing someone whisper secrets from another dimension. It stuck with me because it’s not trying too hard to impress—it lets the emotion do the talking. And damn, does it talk loud. What makes Vulture Provider stand out isn’t just its genre-bending chaos or its kitchen-sink approach to instrumentation. It’s the little details—the harmonium wheezing like an old man catching his breath, the eerie theremin making you question your sanity, the tuba dropping in like an uninvited guest who ends up stealing the show. Producer Simon Akkermans clearly gave everyone room to experiment, and boy, did they take advantage of it. But here’s the kicker: listening to this album feels like hanging out with a group of friends who are slightly cooler than you. They’re doing things you don’t fully understand, but you can’t help but admire their audacity. Sure, not every track lands perfectly—there are moments where the noise gets overwhelming, like staring directly into the sun—but even those missteps feel intentional, like they’re daring you to keep up. In the end, Vulture Provider is less of an album and more of an experience—one that leaves you sweaty, disoriented, and maybe a little bit changed. If anything, it proves that sometimes the best art comes from throwing caution to the wind and seeing what sticks. Or maybe it’s just proof that Dutch musicians have access to way too many instruments. Either way, I’m here for it.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Vulture Provider* by Bombay Show Pig is a wild mix of electronic and rock vibes, with styles ranging from noise to indie rock. Released in 2012 in the Netherlands, it features an impressive lineup of musicians and instruments. One standout detail? Frank Wienk, who played marimba, vibraphone, and percussion, added layers of unique sounds to tracks like "Wires" and "Shackles and Chains." Oh, and there’s even a theremin—a quirky, spooky-sounding instrument—played by Fay Lovsky on tracks like "On A Plane." It’s the kind of album that feels experimental yet carefully crafted, with credits showing just how many talented people came together to make it happen.
