Album Review: Noussut hän on by Matti Esko If you're into music that feels like a warm hug from someone who's lived a thousand stories, Noussut hän on by Matti Esko might just be your next favorite. Released in 1972 in Finland under the label Finlandia, this album is a treasure chest of folk vibes with a sprinkle of world and country charm. It’s got that raw, unpolished feel that makes it feel alive—like it’s whispering secrets straight from the Finnish woods. One track that sticks out is “Kesäilta.” The melody is simple but haunting, kind of like those summer nights where the sun doesn’t wanna set, and you’re left sitting outside wondering if life gets any better than this. The guitar work here is so gentle, it’s like Matti’s fingers are brushing the strings instead of plucking them. There’s no rush, no need to show off—it’s just honest music that lets you breathe. You can almost smell the pine trees while listening to it. Then there’s “Rakkauden laulu,” which hits different. This one has this earthy, soulful vibe that sneaks up on you. The lyrics (if you understand Finnish) talk about love in a way that feels real—not some fairy tale nonsense but the messy, beautiful kind that actually happens. The harmonica bits? They’re not perfect, but that’s what makes ’em special. It’s like they’re saying, “Hey, we’re all a little flawed, and ain’t that great?” You know, albums like Noussut hän on remind me why I fell for music in the first place. It’s not about flashy production or trying too hard—it’s about telling a story and letting the listener sit with it for a while. Listening to this record feels like flipping through an old photo album; each song adds another layer to the picture of who Matti Esko was back then—and maybe who he still is today. Oh, fun fact: apparently, this album didn’t exactly set the charts on fire when it came out. But isn’t it funny how sometimes the quiet ones end up leaving the biggest mark? Like, decades later, people are still talking about how good it is. Kinda gives me hope for my own weird little projects, ya know?
