Album Review: Ain’t Worried No More by Mike Morgan & The Crawl Man, if you’re a fan of blues that hits you right in the gut and makes your soul feel like it’s been through some stuff but still standing tall, then Ain’t Worried No More is the record for you. Released back in ’94 on Black Top Records, this Texas Blues gem from Mike Morgan & The Crawl feels like an old friend who shows up unannounced but always knows how to make things better. It’s raw, real, and full of heart—just what good blues should be. Now, let me tell ya about two tracks that stuck with me long after the needle lifted off the vinyl (or, y’know, after I hit pause on Spotify). First up is “You Came A Long Way From St. Louis.” This one grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. The groove is so smooth it almost tricks you into forgetting the lyrics are kinda sad—they’re talking about someone leaving behind where they came from, chasing something bigger or maybe even running away from themselves. But damn, Mike Morgan sings it like he’s lived every word. His guitar work? Flawless. Every bend and slide feels like he’s pouring his whole life story into those strings. When this song comes on, I swear I can picture dusty roads and neon signs flickering in the night. Feels cinematic, y’know? Then there’s “I Let Her Slip Right Through My Hands,” which… oof, talk about relatable. We’ve all had moments where we didn’t realize what we had until it was gone, right? This track nails that sinking feeling perfectly. The rhythm section lays down this slow-burning shuffle that just drags you along like regret itself. And when Morgan sings, “I shoulda held on tight / But now she’s outta sight,” it’s impossible not to nod along while thinking about your own mistakes. It’s heavy, man, but in a way that heals instead of hurts. Like yeah, you screwed up, but hey—you’re still here, still breathing, still listening to killer blues tunes. The rest of the album keeps the vibe alive too. Tracks like “Crazy Mixed Up World” and “My Baby’s In Love With Another Guy” keep things fresh without losing that gritty authenticity. Even the title track, “I Ain’t Worried No More,” ends things on this defiant note that feels earned after all the emotional ups and downs. It’s like saying, “Yeah, life sucks sometimes, but I’m still standing.” What really gets me about this album is how honest it feels. There’s no glossing over pain or pretending everything’s okay when it isn’t. These songs sound like they were written late at night, maybe with a whiskey glass sweating on the table nearby. They remind you that being human is messy, beautiful, and worth celebrating—even if it hurts sometimes. Oh, and here’s a random thought: Listening to this record makes me wonder how many people heard it back in ’94 and immediately started planning road trips across Texas. Because seriously, this music screams open highways and endless skies. So yeah, give Ain’t Worried No More a spin if you haven’t already. Just don’t blame me if you end up sitting alone in your car afterward, staring off into space, thinking about all the stuff you thought you’d forgotten. That’s what great blues does—it digs deep and stays with you.
