Pam Mark - Flying

Album Review: "Flying" by Pam Mark (1975) Pam Mark’s Flying, released in 1975 on Aslan Records, Inc., is one of those albums that sneaks up on you. It’s not flashy or loud—just a heartfelt blend of Folk, World, Country, Pop, and Rock vibes with Gospel undertones. The songs feel like they were pulled straight from her journal, raw and real. You can tell she poured everything into this project because Pam didn’t just sing; she wrote the lyrics, composed the music, played multiple instruments (flute, piano, acoustic guitar—you name it), and even arranged the whole thing. That kind of hands-on passion makes Flying stand out, even if it flew under the radar back then. The album has some killer tracks, but two really stuck with me: "Love Not The World" and "Flying." "Love Not The World" hits hard right outta the gate. It starts soft, almost whispery, but builds into this emotional crescendo that grabs your soul. The lyrics are simple yet profound, reminding listeners to focus on what truly matters. Backed by Dan Collins, Heidi Cunningham, and John Fischer’s harmonies, Pam’s voice feels both vulnerable and powerful at the same time. And let’s not forget Larry Mosley’s congas—they add this subtle groove that keeps the track grounded while still letting it soar. Honestly, every time I hear it, I get goosebumps. Then there’s the title track, "Flying." This one’s more upbeat compared to the rest of the album, with a dreamy vibe that lives up to its name. Lloyd Barre’s electric guitar adds a nice edge, blending perfectly with Pam’s soft rock style. What gets me most about this song isn’t just how catchy it is—it’s the imagery in her words. She sings about freedom, hope, and breaking free from whatever holds you down. By the second chorus, you’ll wanna spread your arms wide and take off yourself. Other standout moments include "Wings Of The Dawn," which showcases her poetic side, and "Jesus I Believe," where her faith shines through without ever feeling preachy. Each track feels intentional, crafted carefully to connect rather than impress. What makes Flying special isn’t just Pam’s talent—it’s the way everyone involved brought their A-game. From Larry James’ engineering to Jim Lamb’s cover art, no detail was overlooked. Even the mastering by Wly gives the record a warm, timeless quality that still holds up today. Reflecting on Flying, it strikes me as an album made for quiet evenings or long drives when you need something thoughtful playing in the background. Sure, it might not have been a chart-topper, but maybe that’s okay. Sometimes the best music doesn’t chase fame—it finds its people slowly, one listener at a time. Fun fact? Listening to this album feels like stepping into another era entirely. If you close your eyes, you can almost picture Pam sitting cross-legged in a sunlit room, strumming her guitar and scribbling lyrics on a notepad. And honestly? That image alone makes Flying worth revisiting.

Aerial Heights - I was there at Fair Oaks Pres also when she played as well as Keith and Randy. We had the most amazing youth support in those days!

Pam was the first Christian contemporary artist that I listened to back in 1976. My girlfriend (now wife of 45yrs), invited me to hear her in concert at the University of Oregon... my first Christian Concert. I love listening to her and reflecting on the life that I have so enjoyed in Christ these five decades.

I bought this on Vinyl LP when she came to our church and performed for the High School fellowship, Fair Oaks, CA - 1975. We were also visited by Keith Green, Randy Stonehill and several others.
I sat on the floor next to Keith's bench while he was playing our church piano and talked with him for almost an hour afterward. Interesting times.

I listened to this album continuously over a weekend in 1982 . Now 40 years have passed, I’ve lost track of those people, but I looked for this album many times and never found it. God bless you this one of the best albums ever made.

This was the first Christian album I purchased when I saw Pam in person and was able to speak with her. I've always been blessed by her music and forty years later it still speaks to my heart.

This remains a Spirit-filled album. It helped me so much in the 70s and 80s, and still ministers today. Rich. And I also love the artwork on the album cover!
