The Last Emerald Of Antwerp by Rhapsody: A Power Metal Gem That Doesn’t Hold Back Alright, buckle up, because we’re diving into The Last Emerald Of Antwerp, a 2002 power metal masterpiece from Belgium’s very own Rhapsody. Released under their cheeky “Not On Label (Rhapsody)” moniker, this album is like an epic fantasy novel but with more shredding and fewer awkward love triangles. If you’re into wizards, dragons, swords, and general over-the-top medieval vibes, then congrats—you’ve found your jam. Let’s talk tracks, shall we? First up, there’s Emerald Sword. Yeah, I know, the title sounds like something out of a cheesy RPG game, but trust me, this song slaps. It starts off with this sweeping orchestration that makes you feel like you’re storming a castle or maybe just dramatically walking through a forest. Then BAM—guitars kick in harder than your uncle at a family reunion. The soaring vocals paired with face-melting solos make it impossible to forget. Every time I hear it, I half expect Gandalf to show up and start yelling about rings or something. Then there’s Power Of The Dragonflame. This one’s got everything: choirs, galloping rhythms, and enough energy to power a small village. Seriously, try listening to this without air-guitaring or pretending you’re riding a dragon into battle. Spoiler alert: You can’t. There’s something about the way it builds from its quiet intro to full-on symphonic chaos that just hits different. Also, bonus points for the name—it’s so gloriously nerdy it hurts. Now, let’s not ignore the rest of the lineup. Tracks like Dawn Of Victory and Wisdom Of The Kings keep the adrenaline pumping, while Lamento Eroico throws in some serious emotional weight. And hey, who doesn’t love a good instrumental interlude like Intro Aresius? It’s basically mood lighting for your brain. But here’s the thing about The Last Emerald Of Antwerp: it’s unapologetically extra. Some might call it overindulgent, but honestly, isn’t that what power metal’s all about? Life’s too short to worry about being cool when you could be singing about immortal warriors instead. Final thoughts? Listening to this album feels like stepping into a world where every day is Judgment Day and everyone has perfect hair. Sure, it’s a little rough around the edges production-wise, but that only adds to its charm. In a weird way, it reminds me of those old-school video games where the story didn’t really matter as long as the boss fights were awesome. Oh, and fun fact—if you listen closely during Holy Thunderforce, you might catch yourself wondering if they snuck in some actual thunder sound effects. Or maybe that was just my imagination. Who knows? Anyway, give this album a spin if you’re ready to embrace your inner nerd warrior. Just don’t blame me if you start referring to your car as a “chariot of doom.”

About Rhapsody

Italian symphonic power metal band formed by Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli, widely seen as a pioneer of the symphonic power metal subgenre. Since forming in 1993 as , the band has released twelve studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, and a Live DVD. Rhapsody / is known for its conceptual lyrics that constitute a fantasy story throughout all of their albums from 1997 to 2011. After using the moniker of Rhapsody for nearly ten years, the band changed their name to Rhapsody of Fire in 2006 due to trademark issues. In 2011, following the release of their album From Chaos to Eternity which concluded The Dark Secret Saga, and after 18 years as co-leader of the band, Turilli left Rhapsody of Fire (on good terms) to form a new Rhapsody band, Luca Turilli's Rhapsody, along with two other members who left with him, Dominique Leurquin, Patrice Guers. They describe their discography as a parallel continuation of Rhapsody of Fire's discography, with their first album being their own "Rhapsody's 11th album" and consider that they didn't leave the band, rather that it amicably split in two. In 2016, other long-term members Fabio Lione and Alex Holzwarth had left the band, and reunited with Turilli, Leurquin and Guers, to play again under the name Rhapsody for their 20th Anniversary Farewell Tour; in December 2018, several months after announcing that Luca Turilli's Rhapsody was now inactive, Turilli announced the creation of a new Rhapsody band named Turilli / Lione Rhapsody, with the lineup of the 20th Anniversary Farewell Tour (recreating, minus Staropoli, the original band's 20022011 lineup). The band was formed in 1993 under the name . In 1997 the band changed its name to . In 2006 the band changed its name again to . The music of the band could be considered in their own terminology as: "Symphonic Epic Hollywood Metal" This was mentioned on the hype sticker of .
