Review by Eric Davis

Classic Small Faces: A Timeless Ride Through Rock and Pop Bliss Alright, let me tell ya—Classic Small Faces is one of those albums that just grabs you by the soul and doesn’t let go. Released in 1999 on Deram (yeah, I know it’s kinda late for a “classic” collection, but who cares?), this thing feels like Europe bottled up in grooves. It's got rock grit, pop sparkle, and enough heart to make your chest ache. If you're into raw vibes with a dash of swagger, this is your jam. The tracklist? Oh man, where do I even start? There are some real gems here. Like, "What'cha Gonna Do About It (French EP Version)" hits differently—it’s punchy, edgy, and has this attitude that screams, “Try me.” You can almost picture the band leaning into their instruments like they’ve got something to prove. Every beat pulls you deeper until you’re nodding along like an idiot. Then there’s "All Or Nothing," which honestly might as well be the soundtrack to every dramatic moment in life. The vocals crackle with desperation, and the melody sticks to your brain like gum under a shoe. These two tracks alone could carry the whole album, but nah—they just set the stage for what else is cookin’. Now, don’t get me wrong, not every song will knock your socks off. Some tunes feel a bit too polished or predictable, like when someone tries too hard at karaoke. But hey, even those moments have charm because they remind you how human music can be. Like, sure, "Sha-La-La-La-Lee" sounds kinda goofy now, but isn’t that part of its magic? It’s unapologetically itself, flaws and all. Listening to this record feels like flipping through an old photo album. You see snapshots of youthful rebellion, love gone sideways, and dreams still burning bright. Tracks like "Sorry She's Mine" hit you right in the feels, while bangers like "Shake" make you wanna dance like nobody's watching. And honestly, isn’t that what great music should do? Make you feel alive? Here’s the kicker though—this album came out decades after the Small Faces first rocked the scene, yet it still holds up. Maybe it’s nostalgia talking, or maybe it’s proof that good music never really dies. Either way, Classic Small Faces deserves a spot in your playlist if you dig stuff that’s real and messy and beautiful. Oh, and fun fact? Listening to this made me realize my air guitar skills haven’t improved since high school. Guess some things never change!
