Album Review: New Trend Sounds 2004 by Todd Edwards Todd Edwards’ New Trend Sounds 2004 is a masterclass in blending Garage House, House, and UK Garage into an unforgettable auditory journey. Released under i! Records in 2004, this album feels like a time capsule of innovation and raw emotion from the UK electronic scene. With Joseph Ventola as executive producer and Edwards himself at the helm of DJ mixing duties, it’s no surprise that the project delivers both technical precision and heartfelt vibes. The album boasts a hefty tracklist, but two songs stand out for different reasons. First up is "Perfect Love (Todd Edwards New Love Remix)." This one grabs you right away with its lush layers of chopped-up vocals—a signature move by Edwards—and a beat that feels like it’s hugging your soul. The way he manipulates samples creates this ethereal vibe, almost like falling in love all over again. It's not just music; it's nostalgia wrapped in rhythm. You can't help but replay it, trying to catch every little detail hidden within the mix. Then there’s "God Will Be There (For You Remix)," which hits differently. The track builds slowly, starting off subtle before exploding into this gospel-infused anthem that feels oddly comforting. It’s spiritual without being preachy, uplifting without feeling forced. If you’ve ever needed reassurance during tough times, this tune could easily be the soundtrack to those moments. Tracks like these remind us why Todd Edwards isn’t just another name in electronic music—he’s a storyteller who uses sound instead of words. One thing about New Trend Sounds 2004 is how cohesive yet varied it feels. From the introspective tones of "Through The Pain" to the bouncy energy of "Walk With Me," each song adds something unique while still fitting perfectly into the larger picture. Even lesser-known tracks like "Face My Heaven" pack enough punch to make you stop whatever you’re doing and listen closely. It’s worth noting how personal some of these tracks feel. Take "To My Family"—a simple title, sure, but the melody carries so much weight, you’d swear Edwards poured his heart into it. And honestly? He probably did. That level of authenticity makes the whole album resonate on a deeper level. Looking back, what strikes me most isn’t just the quality of the music—it’s how timeless it feels. In a world obsessed with trends, New Trend Sounds 2004 somehow manages to stay relevant nearly two decades later. Maybe that’s because good music never really goes out of style. Or maybe, just maybe, Todd Edwards knew exactly what he was doing when he crafted this gem. Either way, it’s a reminder that sometimes, the best things come from staying true to yourself—even if nobody else gets it at first. And hey, here’s a thought: if aliens ever visit Earth and ask for proof we had culture, playing them this album might just do the trick.

About Todd Edwards

House and Garage producer/remixer, DJ, occasionally singer and Grammy winner from Bloomfield, New Jersey (US) (born December 9, 1972). Edwards music has been recognized as a major influence on the nascent UK Garage genre in the United Kingdom in the mid 1990s. He became known for his intensive sampling and remixing technique that involves cross-hatching brief snatches of vocals into a melodic-percussive honeycomb of blissful hiccups as described by critic . Used both on his solo albums and on his remixes for other artists, this complex vocal sampling technique in some cases renders the original track almost unrecognizable. With remixes numbering in the hundreds, some of the artists Edwards has remixed include Wildchild, St. Germain, Benjamin Diamond, Justice, Klaxons and Dimitri From Paris. Edwards co-produced and performed vocals on the Daft Punk song Face to Face from the album and he worked again with them, co-writing, co-producing and contributing vocals to the song, Fragments Of Time from their 2013 album , for which he won a Grammy.
