The Old Piano Tuner / Just An Old Love Of Mine by Tommy Dorsey & His Orchestra – A Blast from the Jazz Past Alright, buckle up. This ain’t your grandma’s playlist fodder (unless your grandma was swingin’ in 1947). Tommy Dorsey and his crew hit hard with The Old Piano Tuner / Just An Old Love Of Mine, a two-track slice of big band brilliance that screams “Canada and US, baby!” Released under RCA Victor, this little gem is straight fire for jazz heads or anyone who digs some sass with their saxophones. First off, let’s talk about “Just An Old Love Of Mine.” Man, this track grabs you by the ears and doesn’t let go. The vocals? Smooth as butter on a hot biscuit. It's got that classic Dorsey vibe—tight arrangements, killer brass punches, and a melody so catchy it’ll be stuck in your brain like gum on a shoe. You know how some songs just sit there? Not this one. This tune kicks open the door, throws its hat on the rack, and says, "Hey, remember me?" And yeah, you do. That lingering trumpet line? Forget it. It’s tattooed on my soul now. Then there’s “The Old Piano Tuner.” Oh man, this thing slaps. Like, slaps. There’s something raw and almost cheeky about the way the piano takes center stage here—it’s not flashy, but damn if it doesn’t feel alive. Every note feels like it’s got a story to tell, like it’s whispering secrets from smoky jazz clubs long gone. The rhythm section locks in tight, and before you know it, you’re tapping your feet like you’ve had too much coffee. Screw subtlety; this track demands attention. Now, sure, these tracks are nearly 80 years old, but they still slap harder than half the stuff out today. What’s wild is how fresh they feel—even though they’re older than most people’s grandparents. I mean, come on, when was the last time you heard something this unapologetically bold? But here’s the kicker: listening to this makes me wonder what happened to music like this. Where’d all the swagger go? These days, everyone’s chasing trends, but back then? They were making masterpieces without even breaking a sweat. Maybe we need more old piano tuners and fewer auto-tuned heartbreak anthems. Or maybe I’m just nostalgic for something I never lived through. Either way, crank this up loud—you won’t regret it. Final verdict? Two tracks, zero filler. Pure gold.

About Tommy Dorsey And His Orchestra

Orchestra under the leading of Tommy Dorsey, formed in 1935 and disbanded a first time in 1946. By late 1946, the band business was indeed having problems. In December 1946, some members of the band (including Tommy Dorsey) were calling it quits. However, less than two years later, he formed an orchestra with exactly the same name (Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra), but with different members. Dorsey's orchestra was known primarily for its renderings of ballads at dance tempos, frequently with singers such as Jack Leonard and Frank Sinatra.
