Review by James Brown

Alright, let’s rip into this one. The Only Only One For Me Who Takes Care Of The Caretakers Daughter by Ukulele Ike—yeah, that’s Cliff Edwards for those who don’t know—is a wild ride back to 1925. It’s got that old-timey UK pop vibe with vocals so raw they feel like sandpaper on your ears but in the best way possible. Released under Levaphone, it’s not exactly what you’d call “smooth listening,” but damn if it doesn’t stick with you. First off, “The Only, Only One For Me” hits hard. Like, really hard. You can tell Cliff wasn’t messing around when he laid this down. His voice cracks and wobbles all over the place, but somehow it works. This track ain’t about perfection; it’s about heart. And man, does Ike pour his soul into every note. There’s something kinda reckless about how he belts out the chorus—it’s almost like he’s daring you not to sing along. Spoiler alert: you will. Don’t fight it. Then there’s “Who Takes Care Of The Caretaker’s Daughter?”, which might just be the weirdest song title ever. But hey, weird works here. The tune is catchy as hell, even though the lyrics make zero sense once you think about them too much. Who does take care of the caretaker's daughter? Cliff doesn’t answer that question, but he sure makes it fun trying to figure it out. The ukulele riff looping through the background feels loose, almost sloppy, but it hooks you anyway. By the second listen, you’re humming it while brushing your teeth. Annoying? Maybe. Memorable? Absolutely. This album isn’t polished or slick—it’s rough around the edges, and honestly, that’s why it sticks. Cliff Edwards wasn’t trying to reinvent music; he was just doing his thing, uke in hand, letting the chips fall where they may. Listening to these tracks now feels like eavesdropping on another era, one where people didn’t overthink everything. So yeah, if you’re looking for modern production values or some deep philosophical meaning behind the lyrics, keep walking. But if you want music that punches you in the gut and stays lodged in your brain like gum on a shoe, give this a spin. Just don’t blame me when you catch yourself wondering what happened to the caretaker’s daughter. Oh, and P.S.—I’m still waiting for someone to write a sequel answering that question. Call me, Hollywood.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: Back in 1925, a guy named Ukulele Ike, real name Cliff Edwards, released an album in the UK with a title so long it’s almost comical. It’s called *The Only Only One For Me Who Takes Care Of The Caretakers Daughter*. Yep, that’s the full thing. The album includes two tracks, both as quirky as the title itself. Imagine walking into a record store and asking for *that* by name! It’s a fun piece of pop history from a time when vocal music was charmingly simple yet incredibly creative.
