Review by Mahesh Biradar

Kazim Al Saher’s “Hafiat Al Kadamain” – A Folk Odyssey That Kicks You in the Feels Alright, let’s get real for a second. Kazim Al Saher isn’t just some dude with a voice—he’s the dude with a voice. And his 2003 album حافية القدمين (Hafiat Al Kadamain)? It’s not your run-of-the-mill Middle Eastern folk record. This thing is an emotional sledgehammer wrapped in lush orchestration and raw storytelling. Released under Stallions Records and AMD, it’s got everything: killer instrumentation, Kazim’s signature heartbreak vocals, and enough cultural depth to make you feel like you’ve been dropped into Beirut or Baghdad during sunset. Now, let’s cut to the chase—this album has 16 tracks (yes, repeat titles included), but two songs stand out so hard they’ll leave bruises on your soul: هل عندك شك؟ (Hal Endak Shak) and كل ما تكبر تحلو (Kul Ma Tekbar Tehla). First up, Hal Endak Shak. Man, this track hits different. The ney by فوده and رضا بدير? Pure magic. That mournful wail of the flute paired with Kazim’s raspy delivery makes you question every life decision you’ve ever made. The lyrics are basically a gut punch—if you’ve ever doubted love, this song will slap you upside the head and scream, “Wake up, idiot!” Every time I hear it, I’m reminded why Kazim is called the Caesar of Arabic music. He doesn’t sing; he bleeds emotion. The Prague Symphony Orchestra backing him doesn’t hurt either—it’s like being serenaded by both your ancestors and your future self at the same time. Heavy stuff. Then there’s Kul Ma Tekbar Tehla, which feels like a warm hug from someone who secretly hates you. The strings section, courtesy of د. نبيل كمال, pulls at your heartstrings harder than your ex ever could. The build-up is slow, almost teasing—you think it’s gonna stay soft, but then BAM, the choir kicks in, and suddenly you’re crying in public over a plate of hummus. The repetition of “كل ما تكبر تحلو” feels like life itself—messy, cyclical, beautiful. By the end, you’re left wondering if growing older really does make things sweeter—or if it’s all just a cruel cosmic joke. Let’s talk production for a sec. Frank Peterson knew what he was doing when he jumped on board as producer for some tracks. The mix between traditional instruments like the oud (shoutout to علي الخطيب) and Western elements like frosty drums from Frosty Beedle creates this insane fusion that shouldn’t work—but somehow does. Same goes for طوني جيجا’s accordion—it’s subtle, but once you notice it, you can’t unhear it. Props also go to the engineers and mixers—they turned chaos into clarity without losing the grit. But here’s the kicker: despite its beauty, Hafiat Al Kadamain feels unfinished. Not in terms of quality, but in terms of resolution. Tracks like انتهت الحرب (The War Is Over) hint at hope, but even that title feels bittersweet. Maybe that’s intentional—life in the Middle East rarely ties up neatly with a bow. Or maybe Kazim wanted us to sit with the discomfort, to wrestle with questions instead of answers. So yeah, Hafiat Al Kadamain isn’t perfect, but damn if it doesn’t feel alive. Listening to it is like walking barefoot through history—you feel every pebble, every thorn, every patch of cool earth beneath your feet. And honestly? That’s exactly how it should be. Final thought: If music could bleed, this album would need stitches.

Kadim Al Sahir is the no.1 Arabic legend. Throughout his career of over 30 years, he has sold over 100 million albums, and performed live to millions across the globe, holding the audience in the palm of his hands. The true pan Arab international multi-talented multi-awards winning artist continues to romance the world with his music. Kadim has gained numerous artistic awards including the much respected BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards for Best Middle Eastern/North African Artist and Audience Award, Jordan Awards for The Best Arabic Artist, & Murex dor for Lifetime Achievement Legend Award. His song Ana Wa Leila is the only Arabic song listed and ranks 6th among the ten best songs in the world on BBC. He has performed at the prestigious MGM Grand in Las Vegas, USA, Royal Albert Hall in London, UK, Circus Maximus in Rome, Italy, and Beiteddine & Byblos in Lebanon. Born an Iraqi in 1957, to a simple family, Kadim grew up fueled by passion for creativity. After exploring various forms of art including sculpting, painting, drawing, fashion, poetry, and others, he decided to specialize in music. Soon after he became a multi- instrumentalist, started composing his own music, and sometimes even writing and arranging them. He popularized the Iraqi song far beyond the countrys borders during very challenging times of war, with hits Ubart il shat, Salamtak beed Allah, & Baghdad Kathora Al Hadeeth. Kadim then after went on to re-define Arabic music with his genius compositions of Arabic poetry, especially that of legendary Syrian romantic poet Nizar Qabbani who hailed Kadim as The Caesar of Arabic music, and went on to build a groundbreaking, substantial and enormously popular body of work with huge hits including Ini khayartoki & Zidini ishqan, Quolee ahibuka, & Ahibini. Kadim pioneered Arabic-International collaborations with various artists including Sarah Brightman on The war is over, Lenny Kravitz on We want peace, Paula Cole, One Giant Leap, TGU, & Quincy Jones & REDone on Tomorrow. Along with Italian Andrea Bocelli, and Spanish Julio Iglesias, Arabian Kadim Al Sahir is a romantic world music legend. Kadim is the only true pan-Arab artist with an unmatched popularity with all types of Arabic people, reinforced by his recent appearance as the lead coach on the Arabic version of international TV hit show The Voice, produced by Sony TV and broadcasted on the biggest Arabic TV network MBC, with over 100 million viewers across the globe. And the best is yet to come with the Epic of Gilgamish, his labour of love for almost 15 years, as he adapts it into an opera. Its his Mona Lisa, the masterpiece of his life and the most ambitious and anticipated project in the history of Arabic music. As a genuine humanitarian, with many recognitions including a First Class Accolades Honor by The Arab League, and a Goodwill Ambassodor by the UNICEF, Kadim continues in striving to spread love through his music across the universe.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know that Kazim Al Saher's album *حافية القدمين* (*Hafiat Al Kadamain*) brought together musicians from all over the world? Released in 2003, the album features a mix of Middle Eastern and Western talent. For example, The Prague Symphony Orchestra added lush orchestration, while Lebanese artists like طوني جيجا (Tony Gega) on accordion and علي الخطيب (Ali Al Khaib) on oud brought authentic Arabic flavors. It’s fascinating how this blend of cultures came together to create a truly unique sound.
