Album Review: Redundancia by 2 & Vil – A Techno Journey Worth Remembering If you’re into electronic music with an edge, Redundancia by 2 & Vil might just hit the spot. Released in 2018 under the French label Modulhertz, this album dives deep into the techno genre with a raw, unfiltered energy that feels both calculated and chaotic. It’s not your typical polished techno record—this one has grit, and it sticks with you. The album kicks off with four tracks (TL1, TL2, TL3, TL4), each offering its own slice of hypnotic beats and textured soundscapes. But two tracks stood out for me personally: TL2 and TL4. Let’s break ‘em down. TL2 grabs you right from the start. The track builds slowly, layering crisp percussion over a pulsating bassline that feels like it could go on forever—and honestly, you wouldn’t mind if it did. What makes TL2 memorable is how it balances repetition with subtle shifts. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, a new element sneaks in—a faint synth shimmer here, a distorted kick there. It’s minimal but far from boring. You can tell these guys know their craft; they don’t overdo it, letting the groove do most of the talking. Then there’s TL4, which hits harder and darker. This one feels more aggressive, almost industrial at times, with crunchy beats that feel like they’re punching through the speakers. The rhythm is relentless, making it impossible not to move. There’s something about the way the layers build and drop—it keeps you guessing, never quite settling into predictability. It’s the kind of track that works wonders in a dimly lit club, where everyone loses themselves in the music. What I appreciate most about Redundancia is its authenticity. It doesn’t try too hard to impress or fit into any trends. Instead, it embraces imperfections and lets the sounds speak for themselves. That’s rare in today’s saturated electronic scene. Plus, coming from France—a country known for its rich musical history—it adds another layer of intrigue. Modulhertz clearly knew what they were doing when they signed this one. Here’s the thing though—while listening to Redundancia, I couldn’t help but think about how much effort goes into creating something so seemingly simple yet deeply complex. It’s kinda like cooking a good pasta dish. Anyone can boil noodles, but only a few can make it unforgettable. And that’s exactly what 2 & Vil have done here. So yeah, give Redundancia a spin if you’re into techno that challenges as much as it entertains. Just don’t expect perfection—because sometimes, redundancy isn’t such a bad thing after all.
