Live At Gladiators The Comeback: A Trance Time Capsule That Still Slaps If you’re into electronic music and somehow missed Live At Gladiators The Comeback by Alex G. & Fame, do yourself a favor—go find it. Released in 2001 under Energetic Records (with Warner Music Switzerland backing), this album is like stepping into a neon-lit time machine where the beats are relentless, the vibes are euphoric, and your heartbeat syncs with every kick drum. It’s not perfect, but damn if it doesn’t feel alive. The DJ mix mastery of Alex G. & Fame ties this whole thing together. They didn’t just slap tracks on a playlist—they crafted an experience. You can tell these guys weren’t phoning it in; they were vibin’, tweaking, and throwing down some serious trance wizardry. One listen, and you’ll know why Swiss ravers back in the day probably lost their minds to this one. Let me zoom in on two tracks that still stick with me. First up, “World In My Eyes (Cosmic Gate Remix)”. Oh man, this banger hits different. Cosmic Gate already had a rep for making anthemic stuff, but here? It’s next level. The build-ups are so smooth, you barely notice how hard they’re pulling you in until BAM—you’re flying. Like literally, I remember hearing this track at some random party years ago, and suddenly everyone around me was jumping like we’d all been waiting for that exact moment. It’s got this soaring melody that feels nostalgic now, but back then? Pure futuristic magic. Then there’s “Skydiver (Alex G. & Fame Remix)”, which might as well be renamed “Your Heart Will Explode.” This remix takes the original and cranks it up to eleven. There’s something about the way those synths spiral out—it’s like standing on the edge of a cliff, knowing you’re gonna jump but being too scared to move. And when the drop finally comes? Whew. It’s chaos, but controlled chaos. You can hear Alex G. & Fame having fun with it, adding layers and textures that make you wanna grab someone by the shoulders and scream, “DO YOU HEAR THIS??” What makes Live At Gladiators The Comeback special isn’t just the music—it’s the vibe. Listening to it feels like eavesdropping on a night out in early 2000s Switzerland, where everything felt new and possible. Tracks like “Lost Emotions 2001” and “Melt To The Ocean” keep things dreamy, while heavier hitters like “Fight Club (Club Breaxs Mix)” remind you this album could’ve powered an entire festival stage. But here’s the kicker: even though it’s packed with energy, the album never feels rushed or messy. Every transition flows naturally, like Alex G. & Fame knew exactly what they were doing—and maybe enjoyed a drink or two while doing it. So yeah, Live At Gladiators The Comeback might not change your life, but it will definitely change your mood. If you’re looking for something to blast during a late-night drive or while cleaning your room like you’re auditioning for a dance-off, this is it. Honestly, I kinda wish more albums today had this kind of raw, unfiltered passion. Maybe modern producers should take notes—or maybe I’m just getting old. Either way, give this one a spin. Your inner raver will thank you. P.S. Fun fact: listening to this album makes me want to buy glowsticks. Lots of them.

About Alex G & Fame

Alexander Grassl and Michel Sacher were born in 1976. In the early 90'ies, they started to interest in Techno and visited first partys where they were inspired by DJs as Gangsta, Noise or Sven Väth. Short time later, they had the chance to play music in the youth centre from the village, so they got experiences in DJ-ing. Beginning with Acid and Progressive House, they followed the musical way to Hardcore, Techno and finally Trance. Playing in the youth centre was only the beginning, because they were guests on many events in the region of their village. But being booked for clubs or bigger partys was difficult, and so Alex and Michel understood that it's not only the experience, but also the connections. 1996, they met DJ Antoine and started to work together. Antoine had connections to Tarot, a club-organisation in Zurich (today OXA) and, because of that, they had the possibility to met Mas Ricardo. 1998, Michel and Alex had their first booking in the club OXA and the evening was a big success. In the beginning of 1999, a booking in the club Sensor followed. They were also DJs for other partys, but Tarot was the only possibility for the guys to play in Zurich. So they were happy about their invitations in Sensor. But after Sensor closed its doors, the DJ-career of Michel and Alex seemed to be finish. But they didn't start to cry: They found their own homestudio and tried to produce. The results must have been good, because DJ Snowman, label-owner of Friendship/Sonar, discovered the talent of the guys and so they made a contract. In August 2000, the first track "Freedom" of the two had been released. Together with the remix from Green Court, the track was a big success. Since autumn 1999, Alex works in the recordshop from DJ Antoine in Basel, while Michel concentrates on productions in the studio. Also, he doing the label-managing for Friendship Records. Alex and Michel do their DJ-jobs still together and they try still to reach the ultimate breakthrough in the scene.
