Album Review: The Bog The Future by Bigod 20 Scope Alright, let’s talk about The Bog The Future. This album came out in 1990, straight outta Germany, and it's got that raw EBM and techno vibe that just slaps. Released on New Zone with some remix magic from Konzept, this thing is like a time capsule of early electronic bangers. It’s not perfect, but man, it’s got character. First up, “The Future (Cybotron Mix).” You remember this one because it’s got this relentless beat that feels like your brain’s being rewired while you listen. The mix has these robotic synths that ping around like they’re trying to escape the track. Honestly, it’s kinda hypnotic. I found myself zoning out at work while this played—like, full-on staring into space for five minutes. Not great for productivity, but hey, it’s a vibe. Then there’s “The Bog (Dance Mix),” which hits harder than you’d expect. It’s darker, grittier, and messier in all the right ways. The bassline is so thick it could probably double as cement. There’s something about how the track builds up slowly, teasing you before dropping into this industrial dancefloor chaos. It’s the kind of song that makes you wanna move even if you're sitting on your couch eating chips. What sticks with me about these tracks isn’t just the sound—it’s how they feel. They’re both futuristic but also super grounded in their own weird way. Like, yeah, we’re talking late '80s/early '90s tech here, but it still sounds fresh. Or maybe I’m just easily impressed? Either way, it works. Bigod 20 Scope wasn’t messing around when they made this. Sure, the production can be a bit rough around the edges, but that’s part of its charm. It’s like finding an old VHS tape and realizing it’s actually cooler than most stuff today. Reflection time: Listening to this album felt like stepping into a cyberpunk novel where nothing makes sense but everything feels right. Also, random thought—why don’t more bands name themselves after numbers anymore? Bigod 20 Scope sounds badass. Someone bring that back. So yeah, check this out if you’re into moody electronica or just wanna hear what happens when Germans decide to get experimental with beats. Worth a spin, no doubt.

About Bigod 20 Scope

German EBM (electronic body music) band formed in 1988. The late-'80s intersection of EBM and acid house proved strong in the career of Bigod 20, which started as an acid house project of longtime EBM producer Andreas 'Talla' Tomalla (Talla 2XLC). Comprising of Talla plus producer Jallokin, the group debuted in 1988 with a pair of club hits, "Body to Body" and "America" -- the latter with additional songwriting credits by Richard 23 and Patrick Codenys of Front 242. Trouble with their label forced a hiatus of over two years, but when the major label Sire Records came calling in 1990, Bigod 20 signed an American deal. The first single under the contract was "The Bog," featuring Front 242 vocalist Jean Luc DeMeyer. Bigod 20 added vocalist Zip Campisi to sing on their debut album Steel Works, released later that year, and so became a trio. By 1994's Supercute however, Talla 2XLC had left for what could loosely be termed a solo career (recording on his own for Polygram, Suck Me Plasma and Cleopatra) while Bigod 20 embarked on the 90's trend of added guitars (i.e. cold wave/ crossover).
