Collapse Of Light – Each Failing Step (2018): A Doom-Fueled Joyride Through the Abyss Alright, buckle up, metalheads. We’re diving into Each Failing Step, the debut album from Germany’s Collapse Of Light, released under Rain Without End Records in 2018. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill headbanging fest—it’s a brooding, atmospheric journey through Doom Metal and Death Metal territory that’ll leave you questioning whether you’re alive or just haunting your own playlist. First off, let’s talk about “A Place To Die.” Yeah, they spelled it twice on the tracklist—maybe because once wasn’t enough to hammer home how much this song crushes your soul. It opens with this slow, crawling riff that feels like wading through molasses spiked with existential dread. The vocals are guttural yet somehow melodic, like someone screaming poetry at the bottom of a well. You remember this one not because it’s catchy (it’s not) but because it sticks to your ribs like emotional cement. By the time the track fades out, you’ll either want to cry or punch something. Either way, mission accomplished. Then there’s “Leaving The Light Behind,” another double-dipper on the tracklist. This one sneaks up on you. At first, it’s all moody ambiance and quiet despair, but halfway through, BOOM—a riff so heavy it could collapse a bridge. The interplay between the clean guitars and the growling vocals creates this push-and-pull dynamic that keeps you hooked. Plus, the title? Perfect for anyone who’s ever felt like life is just one long goodbye. Dark, huh? But hey, isn’t that why we love this genre? Now, here’s where things get weird: two tracks have near-identical titles (“The Remains Of The Day” vs. “Remains of the Day”). Did someone hit copy-paste too many times? Or is this some artsy commentary on memory and repetition? Either way, it adds to the overall vibe of disorientation. Props for creativity—or maybe blame the editor. Who knows? What makes Each Failing Step stand out isn’t its polish; it’s raw, messy, and unapologetically human. Collapse Of Light doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel—they just make sure the wheel rolls over your chest a few times. And honestly? That’s kinda refreshing. In a world full of shiny, overproduced albums, this one feels like an old flannel shirt: worn-in, slightly torn, but damn comfortable. So, final thoughts? If you’re looking for an album to soundtrack your next rainy-day pity party or existential crisis, look no further. Just don’t listen while operating heavy machinery—you might accidentally summon Cthulhu. Oh, and if you see the band live, ask them about their obsession with duplicate track names. I’m dying to know what’s up with that. Rating: 8/10 – because even doom has its limits.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a cool fact: The album *Each Failing Step* by Collapse Of Light, released in 2018, is a haunting blend of Doom Metal and Death Metal. It’s from Germany and was put out by Rain Without End Records. Interestingly, the tracklist has some repeated titles with slight variations, like "A Place To Die" and "A Place to Die," which might hint at intentional artistic symmetry or thematic depth. Tracks like "Leaving The Light Behind" feel like a journey into darkness itself. Heavy stuff, both literally and figuratively.

Carlos D’Agua has been possibly my favourite doom/death singer since his Before the Rain days. I am glad that there is now more music in which I can enjoy his great vocal performance. Keep it up, guys! There is never enough deeply touching doom of the kind you are producing.
