Arterial - Evolution

Evolution by Arterial: A Makina Masterclass That Still Punches Hard Let’s cut the crap—Arterial’s Evolution isn’t just another electronic album from the '90s. It’s a fucking time machine that slaps you back to ‘97 with its raw energy and unapologetic beats. Released under ADN Sound in Spain, this record is pure makina gold, a genre that doesn’t get enough love these days but damn well should. Gerard Requena (aka C.J. Rolo) and Ruben Moreno (Ruboy) didn’t mess around when they cooked this up. And let’s not forget Minas Tirith on design duties—those visuals hit as hard as the music. Now, I’m not gonna sit here and wax poetic about every track because who has time for that? But two cuts stand out like neon lights in a dark alley: “Baselution (Sincompas Version)” and “Evolution ll (Happy Version).” These tracks are burned into my brain for different reasons. First off, “Baselution.” This tune grabs you by the throat right outta the gate. The relentless kick drums feel like someone’s jackhammering your skull—but in a good way. You know what I mean? It’s got that industrial edge mixed with euphoric synths that make you wanna lose your shit on the dancefloor. Every beat feels deliberate, like it was crafted to destroy any sense of chill you might’ve had. If you’re looking for background music, nah, this ain’t it. This is front-and-center chaos designed to keep you wide awake at 4 AM. Then there’s “Evolution ll (Happy Version),” which sounds like some sorta twisted paradox. How can something so aggressive also be happy? Somehow, they pulled it off. The melodies are brighter, almost playful, but don’t mistake that for softness—it still kicks harder than most modern EDM rubbish. There’s this one synth riff that loops through your head for hours after listening. Annoying? Maybe. Addictive? Hell yeah. It’s the kind of track that makes you question if happiness and adrenaline overload can coexist. Spoiler: They totally can. The production quality is tight as hell too. Credit where it’s due—Gerard Requena didn’t just write and produce; he mixed this beast himself. Dude clearly knew how to squeeze every ounce of power out of the equipment available back then. No fancy plugins or overprocessed garbage here. Just straight-up grit and soul. So yeah, Evolution is more than an album—it’s a statement. A reminder that electronic music doesn’t need to conform to today’s cookie-cutter standards to leave a mark. Listening to it now feels like finding an old mixtape in your car and realizing it still bangs harder than anything new. Here’s the kicker though—this album came out before a lot of us even knew what makina was. And yet, it holds up better than half the stuff dropping today. Makes you wonder if we’ve been moving forward or just spinning our wheels. Either way, crank this bad boy loud and thank Spain for giving us Arterial.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Evolution* by Arterial is a hidden gem in the electronic music scene. Released in 1997 in Spain, it blends the high-energy style of Makina with tracks that feel both raw and futuristic. What’s wild is how Gerard Requena (aka C.J. Rolo) wore so many hats—producer, writer, mixer—all while keeping the sound fresh and unique. Plus, the design credit going to Minas Tirith adds this mysterious, almost fantasy-inspired vibe to the whole project. Tracks like *Baselution* and the two versions of *Evolution* still slap, even years later.
