Review by Andy Sternberg

Unbreakable by Keep Flying: A Pop-Punk Punch to the Gut (In a Good Way) Alright, let’s get one thing straight—Keep Flying isn’t here to mess around. Their 2019 album Unbreakable is like that friend who shows up uninvited but ends up being the life of the party. Released under Smartpunk Records, this US-born rock gem leans hard into pop-punk territory, and honestly? It’s got more hooks than a tackle box. Now, I gotta say, the tracklist feels a little... obsessed with Artie. Like, there are three versions of “Artie (The Strongest Man In The World).” Three. What’s next, an Artie-themed cereal? But hey, repetition aside, it works because each version brings something different to the table. The first take on Artie hits you right in the nostalgia bone—it’s fast, punchy, and full of swagger. You can almost picture yourself skateboarding through suburbia while screaming the lyrics at pigeons. It sticks in your brain like gum on a hot sidewalk, which, annoying as it sounds, is kinda perfect for pop-punk. Then there’s “Reason,” which feels like the emo cousin at the family reunion. It slows things down just enough to make you go, “Ohhhh, they’ve got feelings too.” The vocals have this raw edge, like someone spilled coffee on their shoes before recording, and it gives the whole thing an authentic vibe. If you’re not air-drumming during the bridge, check your pulse—you might be dead. And oh man, don’t even get me started on “Bargaining.” This song is basically what happens when you mix teenage angst with a caffeine overdose. It’s chaotic, loud, and somehow still catchy as hell. Imagine trying to explain it to your grandma: “No, Grammy, it’s about existential dread—but also hope!” She’d probably nod politely and change the subject to her bingo wins. So yeah, Unbreakable isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s messy, heartfelt, and packed with energy—kinda like real life. Plus, how many albums let you scream about Artie three times without getting bored? Not enough, if you ask me. Here’s the kicker though: Listening to this album made me realize something weird. Pop-punk might be all about rebellion and breaking rules, but deep down, it’s comforting. Like, no matter how bad your day gets, there’s always some band out there singing about worse problems—and doing it with way cooler haircuts. So thanks, Keep Flying. You didn’t just make an album; you gave us permission to feel everything, all at once, and maybe headbang a little while we’re at it. Final verdict? Solid 8/10. Or 9/10 if you love Artie as much as they apparently do.

About Keep Flying

Hailing from the northeast region of the USA, Keep Flying blends musical styling borrowed from a few different genres & eras. Crossing a mix of late 90s skate punk with the aggression of early 00s poppunk, the band stretches a spectrum of taste that appeals to multiple audiences. Add the brass/woodwind section as reigns to the hyper-performance live show of a sleigh and you have what becomes a whirlwind of excitement behind a lyrical wall that can be easily relatable to many listeners. At its core, the band message is hands down represented by their name: Keep Flying.
