Album Review: Days of Songs by One Sided Horse If you’re into raw, heartfelt rock with a UK twist, Days of Songs by One Sided Horse might just hit the spot. Released in 2019 on Not On Label (yep, they’re keeping it indie), this album feels like a diary set to music. Each track ties into days of the week or fleeting moments, making it personal yet universal. It’s not perfect—heck, sometimes it feels intentionally rough around the edges—but that’s part of its charm. One standout for me is “Wednesday - See Your Face.” There’s something about the way the guitars chime in and the vocals ache just enough to make you feel like you’re right there, staring at someone across a crowded room. The melody sticks with you, but it’s the lyrics that really get under your skin. They’re simple, sure, but isn’t that how life often feels? You don’t need fancy words to capture longing or regret. This one stayed on repeat for me because it’s relatable without trying too hard. Another gem is “Summertime In My Winter.” I know, the title sounds kinda poetic, but trust me—it’s more down-to-earth than it seems. The song has this warm, nostalgic vibe that contrasts beautifully with its bittersweet undertones. It’s like remembering a great summer while stuck in the middle of January. The guitar work here shines, with little riffs that sneak up on you and linger long after the track ends. Honestly, it made me wanna grab a cuppa and sit by the window for a bit. The rest of the album keeps things rolling with tracks like “Friday - Without You” and “I’ll Be There,” which are solid additions, even if they don’t pack as much punch as the ones I mentioned. A couple songs do blur together, but hey, maybe that’s intentional—after all, some days probably feel the same when you’re living them. What strikes me most about Days of Songs is how unpolished it feels. Like, these guys didn’t spend ages autotuning everything or overproducing the heck outta their sound. Instead, they let the emotion take center stage. And yeah, it shows. Here’s the thing though—listening to this album felt like catching up with an old mate. Familiar, comforting, but also surprising in bits. By the end, I couldn’t help thinking: man, wouldn’t it be wild if One Sided Horse dropped a sequel called Nights of Silence? Now THAT would be something! So, give Days of Songs a spin if you’re in the mood for real, honest rock. It ain’t flashy, but it doesn’t need to be. Sometimes the best tunes are the ones that remind you it’s okay to be a little messy.

About One Sided Horse

One Sided Horse is the brain child of Mark Whiteside and is his first solo effort away from the radically different Evil Blizzard where "Side" his singing drummer alter ego haunts audiences from the back of the stage. Here we see Mark move front and centre and with the help of some of his friends, create a new kind of sound which fans of Mark's work, will love. Mark has shaped a collection of songs which are a far cry from his previous work, both haunting and melodic the album will be worth waiting for. Starting with playing his tracks to friends and family, over mobile phones, in fields and in his flat, the one sided horse journey began. Encouraged by positive feedback Mark took his tracks into the studio and on to the stage playing support with a 6 track set at the New Continental, Preston in late November 2015. With the album and the start of an official set of gigs in the works, look forward to an exciting year, we hope you will join us for the ride...
