Pond - Paint Me Silver

Album Review: Paint Me Silver by Pond Pond’s Paint Me Silver is one of those albums that sneaks up on you. Released in 2017 under Marathon Artists, this UK-based project blends Pop/Rock and Rock with a splash of Alternative/Indie Rock and Psychedelic Rock vibes. It’s not trying too hard to be cool, but it kinda is anyway. The artwork, done by B.D. Graft, feels like someone took your wildest acid trip dreams and turned them into cover art—simple yet striking. The album features just two tracks: "Paint Me Silver (Radio Edit)" and the full version of “Paint Me Silver.” At first glance, it might seem skimpy, but trust me, these songs pack a punch. Let’s break it down. “Paint Me Silver” hits you with this hypnotic groove right outta the gate. It's got this swirling, dreamy quality that makes you feel like you're floating through space while still being grounded in its catchy hooks. You don’t need a PhD in music theory to get why this track sticks—it’s melodic, trippy, and oddly comforting all at once. There’s something about the way the guitars shimmer and the vocals glide over everything that feels otherworldly. I kept coming back to it because it’s one of those tunes where you notice something new every time you listen closely. Like, oh wait, was that synth always there? Then there’s the radio edit version of the same song—which honestly feels like an unnecessary addition. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still good, but trimming down such a rich track for radio play feels like cutting the crust off perfectly good bread. Sure, some people prefer it that way, but the magic lies in the edges. Still, kudos to Pond for keeping things concise; they know when to stop before overstaying their welcome. What strikes me most about Paint Me Silver is how unpretentious it feels. In a world where albums are often overloaded with filler tracks or overly polished production, Pond keeps it raw and real. They let the music breathe, giving listeners room to sink into their sonic universe without feeling smothered. Here’s the kicker though: after listening to this album, I couldn’t help but wonder if Pond intentionally made it so short as a commentary on modern attention spans—or maybe they just ran out of ideas. Either way, it works. Sometimes less really is more. And hey, if nothing else, it leaves you craving more from them—which isn’t a bad problem to have. Final verdict? If you’re into music that’s both nostalgic and forward-thinking, give Paint Me Silver a spin. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand through the journey.

One stand out track, I personally believe the rest of their music is over-rated, theirs far better music out their that does not get the attention of their other mediocre material, perhaps ask yourselfs are you living in a corporate eco-chamber ?.
