Album Review: Sow Your Seeds by Rubrics – A Punk Rock Gem That Still Resonates Released in 2011 under Sidejar Records and Bonfire Club Records, Sow Your Seeds is the kind of punk rock album that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. Hailing from the US, Rubrics delivers raw energy and unfiltered emotion with this record. It’s not perfect—punk rarely is—but it’s real, and sometimes that’s all you need. The album kicks off strong with “This Music Is My Life,” a track that feels like a manifesto. The lyrics hit hard because they’re relatable—if you’ve ever felt like music was your lifeline, this one speaks directly to you. The driving guitar riffs pair perfectly with vocals that scream authenticity. It’s messy at times, but isn’t that what punk’s all about? You remember this song because it sticks to your ribs—it reminds you why you fell in love with rock music in the first place. Another standout is “30 Cents An Hour Is Slavery.” It’s got bite, both lyrically and musically. The title alone tells you Rubrics isn’t here to sugarcoat anything. This cut tackles exploitation and frustration head-on, blending sharp social commentary with an infectious rhythm that makes you want to shout along. What stays with you isn’t just the message; it’s how pissed off yet hopeful it manages to sound all at once. Tracks like “Warcry / Two-Faced And Fucked” and “Never Grow Up” round out the album with plenty of attitude, though they don’t quite pack the same punch as the ones mentioned above. Still, there’s no filler here—every song has its own flavor of rebellion. Even softer moments like “A Shadow That Will Last A Lifetime” bring depth without losing the gritty edge Rubrics nails so well. What makes Sow Your Seeds worth revisiting over a decade later is its honesty. It doesn’t try too hard to impress or fit into any mold—it just exists on its own terms. Listening to it now, it feels almost nostalgic, like flipping through old photos of simpler days when yelling into the void seemed revolutionary. And hey, maybe yelling still is revolutionary. After all, if we stop making noise, who’ll hear us?
