Simon Laufer - Cant Feel The Ground

Can’t Feel The Ground by Simon Laufer: A Pop Gem That Sneaks Up On You Sweden, 2002. Epic Records drops Can’t Feel The Ground, an album that feels like a warm hug wrapped in melancholy strings and soft beats. Produced by the multi-talented Peter Kvint (who also wears about ten other hats on this record), it’s one of those albums you don’t expect to stick—but somehow does. With its mix of pop sensibilities and orchestral flourishes, it's got a vibe that lingers long after the needle lifts. Let’s zoom in on two tracks because ain’t nobody got time for a full rundown. First up is the title track, “Can’t Feel The Ground.” This song hits different. It starts with these lush violins—courtesy of Anna Rodell and Christian Bergqvist—and before you know it, Simon Laufer’s voice slides in like he’s whispering secrets into your ear. The lyrics are simple but sticky, kinda like when you step on gum and can’t shake it off no matter how hard you try. And then there’s Peter Kvint’s production magic—it’s layered without being overwhelming, giving just enough space for Christina Wirdegren’s cello to tug at your heartstrings. Honestly? I remember this track because it made me miss someone I hadn’t even met yet. Weird, right? Then there’s the instrumental version of “Can’t Feel The Ground,” which closes the album. Now, usually, I skip over instrumentals—they feel like leftovers from the main course. But not this time. Stripped of vocals, the arrangement breathes differently. You notice little details, like Åsa Stove-Paulsson’s viola weaving through the mix or Kvint’s keyboard work adding texture where words used to be. It’s almost cinematic, like the soundtrack to a movie scene where the protagonist walks away from something important, wind blowing dramatically through their hair. Yeah, cheesy AF, but hey, it works. What strikes me most about this album is how human it feels despite all the polished production. Maybe it’s Christofer Stannow’s mastering job, maybe it’s Erik Lernestål’s moody photography on the cover, or maybe it’s just Elofsson’s writing sneaking under your skin. Whatever it is, it sticks. Here’s the kicker though—this album came out in 2002, back when everyone was busy losing their minds over Britney Spears and Eminem. Yet here’s Simon Laufer, quietly dropping a record that sounds more like a diary entry than a chart-topper. Makes you wonder what else we missed while chasing bigger names. So yeah, Can’t Feel The Ground isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s raw, real, and kinda beautiful in its own messy way. Like finding an old Polaroid tucked inside a book—you don’t remember taking it, but damn if it doesn’t bring everything rushing back.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: The album *Can't Feel The Ground* by Simon Laufer, released in 2002, was a Swedish pop gem where one person, Peter Kvint, wore almost as many hats as there are tracks on the album. He played guitar, keyboards, and even handled strings, backing vocals, programming, and arranging. Talk about multitasking! It’s like he was the Swiss Army knife of the music world. And get this—the album was mastered by Christofer Stannow and mixed by Simon Nordberg, adding that extra layer of polish. Oh, and it includes both a vocal and instrumental version of the title track, giving listeners two ways to vibe with the music.
