Stratovarius – 2in1 Infinite Intermission: A Heavy Metal Powerhouse That Doesn’t Hold Back Let’s get one thing straight—this ain’t your grandma’s rock album. Stratovarius’ 2in1 Infinite Intermission is a double-whammy of heavy metal and power metal goodness, released back in 2012 under Ear Music and Armoury Records. If you’re into face-melting guitar riffs, soaring vocals, and drumming that makes your chest vibrate, this is the beast for you. But don’t expect some polished, cookie-cutter masterpiece—this record has grit, guts, and enough raw energy to knock your socks off. First up, let’s talk about “Why Are We Here?” Right outta the gate, Timo Kotipelto’s vocals hit like a punch to the gut. The guy doesn’t just sing; he screams, soars, and belts with a ferocity that’ll leave you breathless. Paired with Jens Johansson’s keyboard wizardry, it’s like being thrown into a cosmic battle between light and darkness. You can practically feel the existential angst dripping from every note. It’s not just a song—it’s an experience. This track sticks with you because it doesn’t shy away from big questions, and damn if it doesn’t sound epic while doing it. Then there’s “Hunting High And Low,” which comes at you like a freight train on steroids. Jari Kainulainen’s basslines are thumping hard enough to wake the dead, while Timo Tolkki’s guitar work is nothing short of shredding perfection. The live version included here? Even better. It’s chaotic, loud, and unapologetically wild—a reminder of why Stratovarius has been tearing up stages worldwide for decades. When Jörg Michael’s drums kick in, you’re not just listening anymore; you’re living it. The production credits deserve a shout-out too. Mikko “message in a bottle” Karmila handled mixing duties, and holy hell, does it show. Every instrument cuts through the mix like a knife, sharp and precise. Mika Jussila mastered both CDs, making sure this thing sounds as thunderous on your headphones as it would blasting through stadium speakers. And props to Derek Riggs for the artwork—it’s as intense as the music itself. But here’s the kicker: what sets this album apart isn’t just its technical brilliance or its killer lineup. It’s the sheer audacity of it all. Tracks like “Infinity” and “What Can I Say?” throw everything but the kitchen sink at you, blending symphonic elements with bone-crushing heaviness. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does—and it works beautifully. So yeah, 2in1 Infinite Intermission is more than just another Stratovarius release. It’s a testament to their refusal to play it safe. By the time you hit the final notes of “The Curtains Are Falling,” you’re left wondering how they managed to cram so much emotion, rage, and beauty into one package. And honestly? That’s kinda life in a nutshell, isn’t it? Messy, loud, unpredictable—but ultimately unforgettable. Rock on, Stratovarius. You’ve still got us headbanging after all these years. (Rating: 9/10)
