Tomboys On Parade by Twins: A Witty, Wobbly Joyride Through Pop-Rock Chaos Alright, let’s get one thing straight—Twins’ Tomboys On Parade isn’t here to hold your hand and whisper sweet nothings in your ear. Nope. This 2014 gem from the US, released under Maximum Ames Records, is more like that quirky friend who shows up uninvited but ends up being the life of the party. With its genre-straddling mix of pop hooks and rock grit, it’s messy, bold, and kinda unforgettable. First off, kudos to the crew behind this sonic rollercoaster: Al Eacret on engineering duties (props for not letting things sound too polished), Carl Saff mastering the chaos into something listenable, and Twins themselves pulling double duty as producers. You can tell they weren’t trying to reinvent the wheel—they just wanted to make it spin faster, louder, and with a bit more attitude. Now, onto the tracks. There are ten songs here, each with its own personality disorder, but two stuck out to me like glitter on a black leather jacket: "Teenage Lothario" and "Big Boots." “Teenage Lothario” feels like if your high school crush grew up to be a troubadour with an electric guitar. It’s got swagger, baby! The riff grabs you by the collar while the lyrics poke fun at youthful bravado without taking itself too seriously. I mean, who doesn’t want to reminisce about awkward first dates and overconfident posturing? It’s catchy enough to hum in the shower but sharp enough to leave a mark. Then there’s “Big Boots,” which sounds exactly how it should—a stomping anthem for anyone who ever felt like they didn’t quite fit into society’s tiny little boxes. The beat hits hard, the vocals have this raw edge, and honestly? It’s impossible not to feel cooler listening to it. Like, put this on, grab a coffee, and suddenly you’re strutting down the street like you own the place. Or maybe that’s just me? The rest of the album keeps the energy cranked up, though some tracks lean heavier on the pop side (cough "Hello World") while others flirt shamelessly with rock vibes ("Long Way Down"). But hey, variety’s the spice of life, right? And Twins seem determined to keep us guessing throughout the ride. So yeah, Tomboys On Parade might not change your life or anything dramatic like that. But what it does do—and does damn well—is remind you that music doesn’t always need to be perfect to be meaningful. Sometimes it just needs to be honest, loud, and willing to trip over its own shoelaces every now and then. Final thought? If this album were a person, it’d probably be the type to wear mismatched socks and quote obscure movie lines at parties. And honestly? We could all use more of that kind of charm in our playlists.
