Review by Jonathan Pytell

Господи Помилуй Царское Вѣрую – A Choral Punch to the Gut Let’s cut the crap. This album isn’t some glossy, overproduced mess trying to win TikTok likes. It’s raw, unfiltered power from 1910 Russia that’ll slap you across the face and make you sit up straight. Духовный Хоръ И И Юхова delivers a choral experience so intense, it feels like stepping into an ancient cathedral where time stops and your soul gets smacked awake. First off, “Господи Помилуй (Царское)” hits hard. Like, hard. The harmonies are tight as hell, layered with this haunting depth that grabs you by the throat. You can almost smell the incense and hear the echoes bouncing off stone walls. There’s no Auto-Tune here—just pure human voices stacking themselves into something bigger than life. Every note drips with desperation, hope, and maybe even a little fear. It’s not just music; it’s a prayer on steroids. And yeah, it sticks in your head because it doesn’t let go easy. Then there’s “Вѣрую,” which is basically a gut punch wrapped in silk. The pacing builds slow but deliberate, like a storm rolling in. By the time the full choir kicks in, you’re already knee-deep in emotion without realizing how you got there. It’s one of those tracks that makes you forget what year it is. I kept replaying it, thinking, "How did they pull this off back then?" No flashy studio tricks, no gimmicks—just sheer talent and belief pouring out. Sure, calling this "Classical" or "Choral" might sound fancy, but don’t be fooled. This ain’t background noise for sipping tea. This is music that demands your attention, shouting at you through history like, “Hey, punk, listen up!” Метрополь Рекордъ deserves props for preserving this beast of an album, though honestly, it probably didn’t need much help. This thing has legs longer than most modern garbage. Here’s the kicker: listening to this record made me realize we’ve lost something along the way. Music today feels so calculated, so safe. But this? This is dangerous. It’s alive. It’s messy. It’s real. If more artists had half the guts these guys did over a century ago, the world would be louder—and better—for it. Oh, and if you’re wondering whether to check it out, here’s my final thought: Screw doubt. Just hit play. Your Spotify playlists won’t know what hit ‘em.

About Духовный Хоръ И И Юхова

Russian choir formed in 1900 by Ivan Ivanovich Yukhov (1871-1943), first as an amateur choir in the city of Shchyolkovo near Moscow that sang mostly Christian music. The choir quickly grew, enlarged by members of the choirs of the Mytishchi Carriage Works and the Rabinek Factory, and it began to perform in Moscow churches. As the choir's repertoire expands, it becomes the most popular choir in Moscow. It sings at theatrical performances, develops an extensive concert activity, and makes its first recordings. After the Russian Revolution, the chorus is nationalized. On January 1, 1919, it becomes the First State Choir. In 1925, it changes its name once more, becoming the M.I. Glinka State Choir. It performed both on the radio and contributed to more than 70 Soviet films, and it sang at numerous performances of Soviet operas and theatrical production. In 1942, the choir became the Republican Russian Academic Choir.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Господи Помилуй Царское Вѣрую* by Духовный Хоръ И И Юхова is a time capsule of Russian choral music from 1910. It’s like stepping back into a world where faith and music were deeply intertwined. The tracks, *Господи Помилуй (Царское)* and *Вѣрую*, are hauntingly beautiful.
