Album Review: Jezamine Toy by The Casuals – A Pop Rock Time Capsule from 1982 Alright, let’s talk about Jezamine Toy, the quirky little gem dropped by The Casuals back in ‘82. It’s one of those albums that screams “Euro flair” with its Ariola label stamp but still feels like it could’ve been your older sibling's secret cassette stash. Genre-wise? Rock and Pop vibes collide into what we now call Pop Rock—a perfect cocktail for anyone who likes their tunes bouncy yet slightly rebellious. Now, onto the tracks. First up, “Jezamine.” Oh man, this song sticks to you like gum on a summer sidewalk. Why? Because it’s got that infectious hook that makes you wanna hum along even if you don’t know all the words (or maybe because you don’t). The chorus is pure ear candy—simple enough to remember after one listen but layered just right so it doesn’t get old fast. Plus, there’s something oddly satisfying about how they stretch out “Jezamine” like it’s some kind of mystical incantation. You almost expect her to be a character in an ‘80s fantasy flick where she rides unicorns or fights dragons. Spoiler alert: She doesn’t. But hey, the imagination boost is free! Then there’s “Toy.” If “Jezamine” was the shiny centerpiece, “Toy” is more like the mischievous sidekick. This track has a playful energy, bouncing around with beats that feel like Saturday morning cartoons set to music. It’s not trying too hard to impress—it’s just fun. Fun in a way that reminds me of eating cereal straight out of the box while dancing awkwardly in pajamas. And honestly, isn’t that what good pop should do? Make life feel lighter? The rest of the album follows suit—catchy melodies, cheeky lyrics, and just enough edge to keep things interesting without scaring off the radio DJs. Sure, it might not reinvent the wheel, but who asked it to? Sometimes you just need a solid ride through familiar territory, and Jezamine Toy delivers exactly that. Here’s the kicker though—as much as I enjoyed revisiting these tracks, listening to them felt like flipping through an old photo album. Not because they’re dated per se, but because they carry this distinct vibe of a time when music didn’t take itself quite so seriously. Like, imagine Tom Cruise in Top Gun suddenly breaking into song instead of flying jets. Weird image, right? But somehow fitting. So yeah, give Jezamine Toy a spin if you’re feeling nostalgic or just want to add a dash of retro charm to your playlist. Or don’t. Either way, I’ll bet you won’t forget “Jezamine” anytime soon… unless you have the memory of a goldfish, which, let’s face it, would probs make you a terrible music critic anyway.

Andermeisje's Toy.. Was dit nou goed? Of is dit zoals de wereld draait?
