Album Review: Swagger by Goldillox Feat Thrill Da Playa & DJ Seth Vogt Alright, let’s talk about Swagger, the 2011 album that’s kinda like that one friend who shows up to the party with three different outfits—versatile, unexpected, and keeps you on your toes. Released under M-Toxin Recordings, this project blends electronic vibes with hip-hop swagger (duh), drum n bass energy, and breaks that’ll make you wanna move even if you’re just sitting in your car. First off, gotta shout out the original track “Swagger.” It’s got that gritty edge where Thrill Da Playa’s flow meets Goldillox’s production chops. The beat is straight fire—it doesn’t try too hard but still slaps. You can tell these guys weren’t overthinking it; they just wanted something raw and real. This version sets the tone for the whole album, like an intro that makes you go, "Okay, I’m ready for whatever comes next." But lemme tell ya, the standout remix here has to be “Swagger (Dubsapiens Remix).” Bro, this one flips the script entirely. Dubsapiens takes the original and gives it this hypnotic, almost trippy vibe. The bassline hits different—like, deeper and dirtier—and there’s this atmospheric layer that feels like you’re floating through space while still nodding your head. Every time I hear it, I think of late-night drives or zoning out after a long day. That drop? Chef’s kiss. It’s the kinda remix that makes you forget the original for a sec because it’s so good in its own right. The other remix, “Swagger (Ill DJ Chris B Remix)”, leans more into breaks territory. If you’re into stuff that’s choppy and unpredictable, this one’s for you. Chris B throws some wild cuts in there that feel like he’s showing off but not in an annoying way. More like, "Yo, check this out—I made it bouncy as hell." It’s fun, chaotic, and perfect for when you need music that matches your scattered brain. What I love most about Swagger is how unapologetically itself it is. There’s no trying to fit into some trendy box or chasing what was popular at the time. These dudes stuck to their guns, blending genres without caring if everyone would get it. And honestly? That’s refreshing. Plus, coming from the US scene in 2011, it holds up better than a lot of other albums from back then. Here’s the random thought to end this review: Listening to Swagger feels like eating a sandwich someone threw together with whatever was left in the fridge—but somehow, it’s the best damn sandwich you’ve ever had. Like, yeah, it shouldn’t work, but it does. So props to Goldillox, Thrill Da Playa, DJ Seth Vogt, and all the remixers involved. Y’all cooked up something special.
