Greasy Truckers Party Live At The Roundhouse February 1972 – Hawkwind’s Cosmic Blast from the Past Alright, let’s talk about Greasy Truckers Party Live At The Roundhouse February 1972 by Hawkwind. Yeah, I know it sounds like an event as much as an album—and that’s because it kinda is. Released in 2019 on Atos Records, this live recording captures Hawkwind during their early ‘70s prime, blazing through a set of raw, unfiltered Space Rock goodness. If you're into trippy vibes, killer jams, and just straight-up weirdness, this one's for you. First off, props to the lineup: Lemmy on bass and vocals (yep, that Lemmy), Simon King pounding the drums, Dave Brock shredding guitar duties, and Nik Turner absolutely owning both saxophone and flute. Oh, and don’t forget Del Dettmar and Dik Mik bringing the synth magic—because what’s Space Rock without some bleeps and bloops? Together, they create this chaotic yet mesmerizing sound that feels like floating through space while being chased by rogue asteroids. Now, onto the tracks. There are gems all over this record, but two really stuck with me: “Silver Machine” and “Brainstorm (Jam).” “Silver Machine” is probably the most famous tune here, and for good reason. It’s catchy as hell—a stomping anthem with layers of fuzzy riffs and Lemmy’s gruff vocal delivery cutting through the mix. Even though it clocks in at under three minutes, it packs more punch than most bands can muster in an entire album. Plus, hearing it live gives it this extra edge, like everyone onstage knew they were creating something special. Honestly, if aliens ever invade Earth, we should play them this track—it might scare ‘em away or make ‘em wanna boogie. Either way, win-win. Then there’s “Brainstorm (Jam),” which is basically Hawkwind saying, “Hey, want to hear us lose our minds for 15 minutes? Cool.” And trust me, it works. This isn’t your typical verse-chorus-repeat kind of song; it’s a sprawling, experimental jam session where every musician gets to shine. Nik Turner’s sax wails like a banshee on caffeine, while Dave Brock lays down these hypnotic guitar lines that pull you deeper into the vortex. By the time it ends, you’re either wide-eyed and buzzing or completely catatonic. Either reaction is valid. The rest of the album follows suit—tracks like “Master Of The Universe” and “Earth Calling” keep the energy high, blending heavy riffs with interstellar soundscapes. Meanwhile, oddball moments like “You Shouldn’t Do That” remind you that Hawkwind weren’t afraid to get silly amidst all the cosmic seriousness. What makes Greasy Truckers Party so memorable isn’t just the music—it’s the vibe. Listening to it feels like stepping back in time to that sweaty, packed venue in 1972, surrounded by people who didn’t care about rules or genres. They came for the ride, and man, did Hawkwind deliver. So yeah, here’s my random thought to wrap things up: If someone told me this album was secretly used as NASA training material for astronauts, I wouldn’t doubt it for a second. But hey, maybe that’s just the Space Rock talking. Give it a spin—you won’t regret it. Unless you hate fun. Then maybe stick to elevator music.

Hawkwind could be a right bunch of bastards in those days- During gigs- they'd hit selected people in audience with 'brown noise' to induce pants-shitting- (or so they claim)-- Easy to imagine them deliberately putting the wind up their audiences who could be largely tripping their paps off
That album cover is the tits!

Great posting and thanks, not heard this version before, but It sounds to me like they've done to this what they did to the Space Ritual album (if you don't believe me about the S R album research it) Thin Lizzy did the same thing with their Live and Dangerous album.
I always used to wonder how H W played so faultlessly on the S R album yet all the other live recordings of that era were very off their heads and sloppy stoned/acidy, then I found out and it was AHA, no wonder, they overdubbed all the mistakes and bits they didn't like in the studio. It started with Brock apparently not liking some of his guitar parts in solos, then ended up with a hell of a lot of the guitar ended up being overdubbed, so the rest simply followed suit.
I have a tape with the original released recordings and they are sloppy as ****, BUT you can hear through the whole set that they were having a lot of fun and a laugh, that is what it was about back then, this is a sterilised, sanitised version of what once was a great sounding gig.
