Review by Adam Nally

A Nomad Story by Lawrence Lindell: A Sonic Journey Through Time and Soul Released in 2014 under the label Noise met Sound, A Nomad Story is an electronic album that dives deep into the realms of IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) and Breakcore. Hailing from the US, Lawrence Lindell crafted this ambitious project as both a personal narrative and a cosmic exploration. The result? A record that feels like flipping through pages of someone’s diary—if that diary were written in beats, bleeps, and soulful synths. The album kicks off with "Mind Orchestra," a track that immediately grabs your attention. It's chaotic yet controlled, like watching a kaleidoscope spin to its own rhythm. What sticks out here isn’t just the intricate layering but how it builds tension without ever fully resolving it—leaving you hanging on for more. Then there’s “Black Hand Side,” which flips the script entirely. This one has a hypnotic groove layered over warm, almost gospel-like tones. You can tell Lindell poured something deeply personal into this piece; it’s hard not to feel connected when listening. Tracks like “Divine Complement” and “Her Love” bring softer moments, balancing the heavier Breakcore vibes found elsewhere. Meanwhile, cuts such as “Knowledge Beyond the Stars” remind you why IDM exists—to make you think while you nod your head. The transitions between tracks flow effortlessly, creating a cohesive experience rather than a random collection of songs. One thing about A Nomad Story is that it doesn’t try too hard to impress—it simply is. There’s no forced grandeur or flashy gimmicks. Instead, Lindell lets his compositions breathe, allowing listeners to find their own meaning within the soundscape. That’s probably why tracks like “Soul Food” linger long after the album ends. Its blend of nostalgic melodies and futuristic glitches creates a vibe that’s equal parts comfort and curiosity. If I had to pick two standouts, they’d be “Mind Orchestra” and “Black Hand Side.” The former because it sets the tone so perfectly—chaotic yet hopeful—and the latter because it feels like coming home, even if you’ve never been there before. These tracks aren’t just memorable; they’re transformative. They pull you into Lindell’s world and leave you wanting to stay awhile. Reflecting on A Nomad Story, it strikes me how timeless this album feels despite being nearly a decade old. In a genre often associated with cold, mechanical precision, Lindell manages to inject warmth and humanity. It’s like he took fragments of his life, history, and culture and wove them into sound. And honestly? That’s kinda beautiful. Unexpected remark? Listening to this album made me crave actual soul food. Fried chicken and collard greens anyone?
