Album Review: Oo Poo Pah Susie by Professor Morrison's Lollipop Alright, let’s talk about Oo Poo Pah Susie. This 1968 gem from Professor Morrison's Lollipop is one of those albums that sneaks up on you. It’s got this quirky mix of rock and pop vibes that feels like a time capsule straight outta the swinging '60s in both the UK and US. Released under labels like London Records and White Whale (yeah, two whales—don’t ask me why), it’s kinda wild how this record still holds up today. Credit goes to producers Artie Resnick and Joe Levine for keeping things fun but not overcooked. Now, I gotta shout out the title track, “Oo-Poo-Pah Susie.” Man, this song slaps harder than it has any right to. There’s just something about its groovy rhythm and playful energy that makes you wanna grab your nearest air guitar or tambourine—or maybe even bust out some questionable dance moves in your living room. The chorus sticks to your brain like bubblegum under a school desk; annoying at first, but then you realize… damn, it’s kinda catchy as hell. Every time I hear it, I picture myself cruising down some retro beachside highway with the top down, wind messing up my hair, except I don’t drive and wasn’t born yet. Still, it feels real. And then there’s “You Take It…” Oh man, what can I say? This track hits different. It’s got this bittersweet vibe, almost like someone handed you an ice cream cone only to drop it two seconds later. The melody tugs at your heartstrings without being all mushy about it, y’know? Like, yeah, life sucks sometimes, but here we are singing along anyway. For whatever reason, this tune reminds me of rainy afternoons spent staring out windows, thinking deep thoughts I’ll never actually act on. Weird flex, but true. Looking back now, Oo Poo Pah Susie might not change your entire worldview or anything, but it doesn’t need to. Sometimes music just exists to make you smile, tap your feet, or zone out when life gets too loud. And honestly? That’s more than enough. Oh, random thought—I wonder if anyone ever named their kid “Susie” because of this album. If so, they’ve probably heard every corny joke imaginable by now. Poor Susie.
