Right Said Fred - Where Do You Go To My Lovely

Where Do You Go To My Lovely? – Right Said Fred’s Underrated Gem from 2005 Alright, let’s talk about Where Do You Go To My Lovely by Right Said Fred. Yeah, the same dudes who gave us that massive 90s banger "I’m Too Sexy." This album dropped in 2005 under labels like Sushi Pop and Ministry of Sound, so you know it’s got some serious Europop vibes with a side of dance-floor magic. It’s not perfect, but hey—it’s fun, quirky, and has a couple of tracks that’ll stick in your head for days. First off, the title track, “Where Do You Go To My Lovely?”—yeah, they really leaned into that name. There are like five versions of it on here: radio edits, Christmas mixes (because why not?), even something called the Beer Killer Mix. Honestly, I think they just wanted to see how many remixes they could squeeze outta one song. But credit where it’s due—the original version is catchy as hell. The melody feels nostalgic, almost like an old-school ballad but with a modern pop twist. And those lyrics? Super dramatic yet kinda tongue-in-cheek at the same time. It’s the kind of tune you’d hear at a club and immediately start swaying to, even if you don’t wanna admit it. Then there’s “Sweet Wonderful.” Oh man, this one hits different. It’s upbeat, super sugary, and makes me want to grab my friends and hit the nearest rooftop party. The production screams early 2000s Europop—think shiny synths, thumping basslines, and vocals smooth enough to make you forget all your problems. Like, it’s the type of song that sneaks up on you when you’re scrolling through playlists late at night. Before you know it, you’ve listened to it three times in a row. No judgment here. The rest of the album keeps things moving with tracks like “Play On” and “Obvious,” which feel more like filler than anything groundbreaking. Still, the whole thing works as a vibe. If you’re into Dance-Pop or Club/Dance stuff, this is worth checking out. Plus, props to Peter Sarstedt for writing the original version of the title track way back when—it adds a cool layer of history to the project. What strikes me most about this album is how unapologetically extra it is. Some might call it cheesy, but honestly, isn’t that what pop music’s all about sometimes? Letting loose, having fun, and not taking yourself too seriously? Right Said Fred nails that energy here, even if it doesn’t always land perfectly. So yeah, give Where Do You Go To My Lovely a spin if you’re feeling nostalgic or just need something upbeat to brighten your day. Just don’t blame me if you end up humming “Sweet Wonderful” during your next Zoom meeting. Oh, and random thought—why do we never see Beer Killer Mixes anymore? Bring ‘em back, please.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know? The album *Where Do You Go To My Lovely* by Right Said Fred is a bit of a musical chameleon. While the band is known for their pop-rock vibe, this 2005 release leans heavily into Europop and dance styles. What’s wild is that the title track isn’t even original—it’s a cover of Peter Sarstedt’s 1969 hit. But Right Said Fred made it their own, adding remixes like the "X-Mas Mix" and "Beer Killer Mix." It’s like they took a vintage classic and gave it a modern, club-ready makeover. Not your typical holiday playlist material!

You talk like Marlene Dietrich
And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire
Your clothes are all made by Balmain
And there's diamonds and pearls in your hair

You live in a fancy apartment
Of the Boulevard of St. Michel
Where you keep your Rolling Stones records
And a friend of Sacha Distel

You go to the embassy parties
Where you talk in Russian and Greek
And the young men who move in your circle
They hang on every word you speak, yes I do...

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do...

I've seen all your qualifications
You got from the Sorbonne
And the painting you stole from Picasso
Your loveliness goes on and on, yes it does

When you go on your summer vacation
You go to Juan-les-Pines
With your carefully designed topless swimsuit
You get an even suntan, on your back and on your legs
When the snow falls you're found in St. Moritz
With the others of the jet-set
And you sip your Napoleon Brandy
But you never get your lips wet

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
(Won't you) Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do

You're in-between twenty an' thirty -
A very desirable age
Your body's firm and inviting
But you live on a glittering state

Your name is heard in high places
You know the Aga Khan
He sent you a racehorse for Christmas
And you keep it just for fun, for a laugh ahaha

They say that when you get married
It'll be to a millionaire
But they don't realize where you came from
And I wonder if they really care, they give a damn

Where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head

I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly brown tags, yes they try

So look into my face Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
But I know you still bear the scar, deep inside, yes you do

I know where you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
I know the thoughts that surround you
'Cause I can look inside your head
