Her Peace: A Darkwave Gem from 1997 Yugoslavia If you’ve ever stumbled across an album that feels like it was crafted in the shadows of forgotten dreams, Her Peace by Alone might just be your next obsession. Released in 1997 under the Not On Label banner, this electronic masterpiece blends darkwave and experimental sounds into something both haunting and unforgettable. It’s not perfect—hell, it doesn’t even try to be—but its raw edges make it stand out in a sea of overproduced mediocrity. The brainchild of Fritz (electronics and production) and Webb Vitković (vocals and music), Her Peace takes listeners on a journey through eerie soundscapes and emotional depths. Tracks like “Belo More” and “Save Her From Herself” are where the magic really happens. “Belo More” hits hard with its pulsating synths and Webb’s ethereal vocals, which seem to float between despair and hope. The track builds slowly, layering textures until it feels like you're drowning in its atmosphere. You don’t just listen to it; you live inside it for those four minutes. Meanwhile, “Save Her From Herself” is more urgent, driven by glitchy beats and a melody that sticks to your ribs like cold rain. There’s a desperation here, as if Webb is pleading directly to you. These two tracks alone showcase why Alone deserves far more recognition than they’ve gotten. Other songs like “Snežni Dhu” and “Starwatcher II” keep the vibe going strong, but let’s not pretend every moment lands perfectly. Some tracks meander a bit too long, losing their grip before pulling you back in. Still, that unpredictability adds charm—it’s clear these artists weren’t chasing trends or radio play. They were making music for themselves, damn the consequences. What makes Her Peace linger isn’t just its sound but its soul. This was Yugoslavia in the late ‘90s—a time when the world felt fractured yet full of possibility. Listening now, decades later, there’s a strange comfort in knowing someone out there was wrestling with big feelings while pushing boundaries no one asked them to push. So yeah, maybe Her Peace won’t change your life. But it’ll definitely leave a mark. And honestly? Isn’t that what great art’s supposed to do? If anything, it reminds us how beautiful imperfection can be. Now go find yourself a copy—you won’t regret it. Unless you hate feeling things deeply, in which case… good luck with that.
