Menacing Youth - Demo

Review by Joe Streno

Demo by Menacing Youth: A Raw Punch to the Gut Alright, let’s talk about Demo by Menacing Youth. This little slice of noise comes straight outta the US, no label backing it—just raw vibes and unfiltered grit. It’s not perfect, but honestly? That’s kinda why I like it. There’s something real here, like they didn’t overthink anything. They just hit record and let it rip. And damn, does it show. First up, “Dumb Father.” Oh man, this track sticks with you. Not because it’s polished or radio-ready (it’s neither), but because it feels like a middle finger to all the fake stuff out there. The vocals are snarled, almost like the singer’s pissed at someone—or maybe just life in general. The guitars grind away in this messy, beautiful way that makes your chest feel tight. Like, you can tell these dudes aren’t trying to impress anyone; they’re just spitting out whatever’s eating at them. I found myself humming bits of it later, not because it’s catchy in a traditional sense, but because it lingers. You know what I mean? It’s like when you hear an argument from another room—it grabs you even if you don’t wanna listen. Then there’s “Reagan’s Corpse,” which is… wild. Like, WTF kind of title is that? But somehow, it works. This one’s angrier, more chaotic. It sounds like the band took everything bad about the ‘80s—greed, corruption, big hair—and cranked it into three minutes of pure rebellion. The drums bash around like they could fall apart any second, and the lyrics? Honestly, I couldn’t catch most of ‘em, but that didn’t matter. It’s less about what they’re saying and more about how it makes you feel: pissed off, restless, alive. By the end, my heart was racing, and I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or scream. What gets me about Demo is how unapologetic it is. These guys aren’t chasing trends or TikTok fame. They’re making music for themselves, and if you dig it too, cool. If not, who cares? It’s refreshing in a world where everything feels so calculated. Listening to this album felt like finding a hidden corner of the internet that nobody else knows about yet. So yeah, Demo isn’t gonna win any Grammys, and that’s fine. It’s rough around the edges, sure, but that’s exactly why it matters. Weird thing though—as I was writing this, I kept thinking about how much better their next album could be. Like, imagine if they kept this energy but tightened things up just a tiny bit. Would they blow up? Or would they lose that magic? Either way, I’m rooting for ‘em. Oh, and one last thing—don’t ask me to explain why, but after listening to this album, I suddenly wanted to call my dad. Fucked up, right?

Interesting fact about Album

Here's an interesting fact: The album *Demo* by Menacing Youth, released in the US without a label, packs a raw punch with just two tracks—"Dumb Father" and "Reagan's Corpse." It’s wild how such a minimalist release can still leave a mark. Sometimes less really is more.
