Album Review: "Le Plus Mieux" by Les Ours Du Scorff Alright, let’s talk about Le Plus Mieux by Les Ours Du Scorff. This quirky little gem from 2002 is like a warm baguette stuffed with French charm and storytelling vibes. It’s got this mix of Folk, World, Country, French Pop, Pop, and even Children’s music—basically, it’s all over the place but in the best way possible. Released under Keltia Musique, this album feels like someone took a bunch of nursery rhymes, threw in some folk instruments, and added dashes of humor and heart. Now, I’m not gonna lie—the tracklist is kinda wild. There are repeats (like “J’ai Bien 10 Puces” showing up twice) and titles that sound like they were made up on the spot (Trois Petits Ours S’en Vont Au Bois, anyone?). But honestly? That’s part of its charm. It’s messy, fun, and totally unpretentious. Let me tell ya about two tracks that stuck with me. First off, there’s “L’Ane L’Ane L’Animal.” Man, this one just slaps in the most wholesome way possible. It’s got this bouncy rhythm that makes you wanna grab a tambourine or at least clap your hands awkwardly in your living room. The lyrics are simple but oddly poetic—it’s literally about a donkey, but somehow it feels deeper than that. Maybe it’s the way they sing it, like they’re telling you an old folktale your grandpa forgot to mention. Either way, it’s earworm material for sure. Then there’s “Mon Parrain C’est Un Musicien.” This one hits different because, well, who doesn’t love a song about cool uncles? The melody has this laid-back vibe, almost like a lazy Sunday afternoon. You can picture yourself sitting by a river while some guy strums a guitar nearby. What makes it memorable is how relatable it feels—if your uncle was half as cool as the one in this song, congrats, you won the family lottery. Listening to this album feels like stepping into a world where everything’s a little brighter, a little sillier, and a lot more musical. Sure, some songs blend together after a while, but isn’t that what happens when you hang out with a group of singing bears? (Okay, maybe they’re not literal bears, but their name translates to “The Bears of Scorff,” so go with it.) Here’s the thing: Le Plus Mieux isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s charming in its own scrappy way, like doodles in the margins of a notebook. If you’re looking for something polished and serious, keep walking. But if you want an album that feels like a big hug shaped like a dancing donkey, give this one a shot. Oh, and here’s a random thought to leave you with: if these guys ever decided to make a concept album about vegetables, I’d 100% listen to it. Just saying.

About Les Ours Du Scorff

The group was created by singers Gilbert Bourdin and Laurent Jouin . This first album was originally titled "Gigi Bourdin Et La Rouchta". Released in 1994, it was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy in 1995. Singers of traditional music, they are surrounded by recognized musicians of the Breton scene: Fanch Landreau , Soïg Sibéril , Jacques Yves Réhault , etc. Their music mixes Breton traditions, Cajun and Irish . It also includes ingredients in the music of the East (Hungary, Romania, the Balkans). Their texts can recall those of Boby Lapointe , Pierre Perret or poets like Norge , without sacrificing too much simplicity commissioned by the music "for children".
